Historic Fort Ontario

Ghost Tours and Reveal Oct 13-14

The Friends of Fort Ontario and the Central New York Ghost Hunters return to the Fort Ontario State Historic Site, 1 E. Fourth St., Oswego to host Ghost Tours Friday and Saturday, October 13 and 14. Guided tours run in 15-minute increments from 7 to 10 p.m. both evenings. Tickets to the annual event are $15 and must be purchased in advance.
Evidence gathered in the fort’s buildings and underground casemates during the past year will be presented in the rooms or areas where it was obtained. People are also invited to bring their own ghost-hunting equipment to find new data under the guidance of the experts.
The tour is open to ages 8 and up, and all participants are asked to wear footwear suitable for steps and uneven ground and appropriate clothing for cool, wet, and windy weather conditions, as the event will take place regardless of the weather. Flashlights are also encouraged.
Fort Ontario is said to be one of the most haunted locations in the U.S. and was the subject of an episode of the SYFY Channel’s Ghost Hunters in the fall of 2012. Ghost sightings and soundings have been reported at, or in association with, the fort since the 19th century.
To reserve your ticket for the Ghost Tour, call (315) 343-4711 or visit the fort’s museum shop. Fort Ontario State Historic Site is open Wednesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m. We will close for the season on Tuesday, October 10.
